Ramon “Ray” Escobedo, age 76, of East Chicago, Indiana, passed away Friday, January 16, 2026. Ray is survived by his wife, Nancy; five children: Ramon Escobedo, Pearl Escobedo, Michael Escobedo, Nancy Escobedo, and Robert Escobedo; grandchildren: Ashlynn Escobedo and Theo Jay Escobedo; brother, Juan (Carmen) Escobedo; sister, Juanita “Jenny” Escobedo; Goddaughter, Nicki Moreno-White; nephew, Johnny Escobedo; dear friends: Selena Longoria and Clara Torres; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by infant child, Dannie Escobedo; parents: Pedro and Guadalupe Escobedo; brother, Pedro Escobedo; sister, Estella Mendoza; nephews: Pedro Escobedo III and Steve Escobedo; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. Mary Church, Indianapolis Boulevard at 144th Street, East Chicago, Indiana, with Rev. Tom Florek, S.J., officiating. Private Cremation to follow. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, Indiana. Please omit flowers, memorial donations requested to the family or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
Ray was born in Laredo, Texas and moved to East Chicago as a baby. He attended East Chicago Washington High School; a United States Army Veteran where he attained the rank of Sergeant; and retired from Arcelor-Mittal Steel with over 30 years of service. Ray was a loving husband and devoted father who loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed working in the yard; and was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in East Chicago.
