Ramona (Cruz) Garcia

Ramona Garcia, age 69, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great‑grandmother, sister, and the enduring heart of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Carlos L. Garcia; her mother, Marcella Cruz; her stepfather, Antonio Delgado; one sister, Maria Delgado; and three brothers, Martin Cruz, Robert Maldonado, and Benjamin Maldonado. She is survived by five sisters: Cruzita Rivera (Carlos Rivera), Lydia Matthews (Brad Matthews), Irma Tate (John Tate), Minerva Gonzalez (Lino Gonzalez), and JoAnn Delgado-Lee (Stephen Lee).

Ramona dedicated her life to her family and to the home she shared with Carlos in East Chicago, Indiana—a place known to many as a source of comfort, warmth, and belonging. While Carlos worked outside the home, Ramona devoted herself fully to caring for her family, creating a household grounded in love, generosity, and acceptance. Her doors were always open, and anyone who entered was met with kindness, a seat at the table, a plate of food, and welcomed without judgment. She was a giver by nature, always thinking of others before herself.

Alongside Carlos, Ramona raised four children:. Carmelita Hutton (Terrence Hutton), Carlos L. Garcia Jr. (Maria Garcia), Marcy Ellis (Maurice Ellis), and Jason Garcia (Shantea Garcia). She took pride in the family they built together, nurturing strong bonds and maintaining close connections across generations. Family was always the center of Ramona’s life, and she cherished deep relationships not only with her children but with every person who became part of the family along the way.

Ramona was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren: Brian Garza, Celina Garza, Alyssa Garza, Alonzo Garza, Luis Garcia, Leticia Garcia, Eduardo Garcia, Elizabeth Garcia, Alexis Lucio, and Jazmine Ellis. She was also a loving great‑grandmother to five great‑grandchildren: Anthony DeLeon, Nevaeh Garza, Zion Garcia, Santana Banks, and Bella Banks. Time spent with her grandchildren and great‑grandchildren brought her immense joy, and she treasured every shared moment, conversation, and gathering around her table.

Ramona and Carlos shared a rare and enduring love. For five decades, they were partners in every sense—supporting one another, raising their family side by side, and creating a life rooted in devotion and unity. Their bond was evident to all who knew them, and their closeness remained unbroken to the very end. In life and in death, they were truly inseparable, leaving behind a legacy of love that will continue to guide their family for generations.

Ramona Garcia will be remembered for her kindness, her selflessness, and the safe and loving home she created for so many. Her spirit lives on through the family she nurtured, the values she embodied, and the countless lives she touched with grace and generosity.

Visitation at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Monday, May 11, 2026.  Private cremation to follow.
