Ramona Guevara Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Ramona "Mita" Guevara, who peacefully entered eternal rest on December 3, 2024. Born in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, Mita brought comedic relief and unfiltered sentiments to all who knew her throughout her remarkable life.

Mita was the cherished daughter of the late Teodoro Rubalcava Villarreal and Juanita Rubalcava Zamora Pompa. She was the last living sibling in her family, a remarkable legacy as the youngest of nine children, which included four brothers and four sisters.

She was the devoted wife of the late Maximo Guevara Sr., a proud veteran. Together, they built a life centered around raising five children: Juanito Maximo Guevara, who preceded her in death; Irene De La Luz Guevara; Robert (Millie) Guevara; Maximo (Joanna) Guevara Jr.; and Yolanda (Jesus) Vargas. She was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren: Nicole Guevara, Jacqueline (Tony) Alvarez, J. Jesus (Adrienne) Vargas Jr., Alexander Vargas, Adam Guevara, Micaela Vargas, Bryan Vargas, Adriana (Marcus) Piña, and Clarinda Guevara. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren who brought her great joy. Mita’s life was one of resilience, generosity, and unwavering faith.

As a migrant worker, she traveled across the United States, experiencing diverse places and people. She was a proud war bride who made her home in Laredo, Texas, and later East Chicago, Indiana.

Known for her feisty and outgoing spirit, Mita was the life of the party. She was a skilled softball pitcher in her younger days, an elegant dancer, and an exceptional cook whose tamales and tortillas were legendary. A woman of deep faith, she read her Bible daily and instilled her devotion in her family.

Mita was also a devoted, Cubs fanatic, who celebrated every home run with enthusiasm, often reenacting them through her living room. She had a deep love for birds and found joy in her shopping trips to JCPenney and Villa Park. She also delighted in taking extended driving trips, always willing to go the extra mile for the people she cared about. Always prim and proper, she exuded grace while maintaining a playful sense of humor.

Mita’s legacy is one of unconditional love, unwavering faith, and an indomitable spirit that touched everyone around her.

Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. Private cremation to follow.  Deacon Javier Patino will hold services at 6:00 pm on Tuesday.
