Raymond C. Rucoba

Raymond C. Rucoba, age 88 of East Chicago, IN passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023.  He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Dolores (Castro) Rucoba; 3 children: Rachel (Donald) Loesch, Marion (Philip) Brzozowski and Rudolph (Laura) Rucoba; step children: Arturo G. (Laura) Lopez, Sr., Thomas (Lisa) Lopez and Steven G. Lopez; 7 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter; 8 step grandchildren and 1 great grandson; siblings: Dr. Richard (late Dolores) Rucoba, late Rudolph (late Lydia) Rucoba, late Robert (Corene) Rucoba, Gregory (late Betty) Rucoba, Rachel (late John Roche) Vela, Reginald Rucoba and Rosemary Rucoba; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Gregorio and Laura Rucoba.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 10:00 am at St. Patrick Church, 3802 Grand Blvd., East Chicago, IN with Rev. Terry Steffans officiating.  Burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond, IN.  Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, April 10, 2023 and from 9:30 am to 10:00 am at the Church on Tuesday morning.

Ray was a long-time employee of the City of East Chicago; for may years he worked in the Mayor's Office as an aide to Mayor Robert Pastrick and also served as Director of the East Chicago Census.  Ray always volunteered to help anyone or any organization that needed assistance.  He was a Korean War U.S. Navy Veteran, member of American Legion Post #508 and various other clubs and civic organizations.  He was also an avid golfer.
