Richard Ortega

Richard Ortega, age 63, of East Chicago, Indiana, passed away Monday, August 18, 2025 at home.  Richard is survived by sister, Theresa (Patrick) Durbin; brother, Vincent (Beverly) Ortega; nephews:  David Ortega and Richard Havling; nieces:  Jennifer Molina and Illiana, Sophia and Gabriella Durbin; grandniece, Isabella Arredondo; aunts:  Petra Vaca and Elodia Samano; and numerous cousins.  Preceded in death by parents: Guadalupe and Juanita Ortega; sister, Stella Ortega; and numerous aunts and uncles.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, August 29, 2025 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3510 Deodar Avenue, East Chicago, Indiana with Rev. Terry Steffens officiating.  Interment at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana.

Richard was a life-long resident of East Chicago and a graduate of East Chicago Washington High School.  He was loved by his family, friends and co-workers.  Richard enjoyed collecting comic books and cards and was well known for his enthusiasm.  A devoted catholic and member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in East Chicago, Richard was a quiet and gentle man, always there for his family and friends.  One last thing "I got a bone to pick with the Cubs!"
