Robert Ramirez, Sr.

Robert Ramirez, Sr., age 76 of East Chicago, IN passed away Monday May 22, 2023 at home.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Maryann Ramirez; 4 children: Robert (Veronica) Ramirez, Diana (Steve) Sammons, Dino (Marina) Ramirez and Laura (Sam) Guajardo; 18 grandchildren: Krystina (Eric), Sirena, Robert, Erica (Adrian), Savannah (Bradley), Logan (Esperanza), Dakota, Cheyenne, Natalia (David), Julian, Angelo, Ivan, Irais, Isabela, Luis (Tyra), Hailey-Marie, Antonio and Legend; 7 great grandchildren: Elijan, David, Ilyana, Logan, Malaya, Elijah, Selah and Seraiah; brother, Ruben Torres; and numerous extended family members.  Preceded in death by his mother, Carmen Guajardo; father, Victoriano Ramirez; grandson, Angel Guajardo; and best friend, Robert “Dinky” Patterson.

Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, June 2, 2023. (Due to construction on Indianapolis Boulevard, please us Railroad, Tod, or Olcott Avenues to 142nd Street) Private cremation to follow.  Rev. Gregory Bim-Merle will hold services at 5:15 pm on Friday. American Legion Allied Post #369 will conduct military honors at 4:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Robert retired from Inland Steel/Arcelor Mittal Company in 2009 after 42 years as a crane operator in the 80” mill. His favorite crane was #62 that he called the “Money Maker”!!  He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran.  Robert was well known for his love of music, huge collection of 45’s, his adequate pool playing skills and his hearty laugh.  Robert was also part of the Harbor doo wop.  Our father always said “when it’s my time it’s my time”.  Bobby and shorty’s love is one that fairy tales are made from.  They showed their children a perfect example of how to love and respect someone you say you love.  Robert will be missed, but remembered by most through a song!.  To share an online condolence, logon to www.fifefuneralhome.com
