Rosario "Toni" Antonia Chavez

Rosario A.”Toni” Chavez (nee Ortiz), age 91, of Griffith, Indiana, formerly East Chicago, Indiana, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2024 surrounded by her family.  Rosario is survived by 2 children:  Abelardo Fernando (Sylvia) Chavez, and Louis H. Chavez; 5 grandchildren:  Daniel C. Chavez, David E. Chavez, Angelica E. Chavez,  Rosalie Chavez, and Alex Suarez; sister, Bertha Ortiz; and nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by husband, Ramiro; daughter, Rosalie Kusek-Chavez; and sisters: Josephine Gonzalez and Susana Velasquez.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November  14,, 2024 at 10:00 am St. Patrick Church, 3802 Grand Blvd., East Chicago, Indiana, with Rev. Terry Steffens officiating. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, Illinois. Family and Friends will meet from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the Church on Thursday morning.

Rosario was a former member of St. Patrick Church and current member of St. James the Less in Highland, Indiana and a current resident of Griffith and former long-time resident of East Chicago. Toni was an avid seamstress, knitter, crocheter, and Chicago Bulls fan.
