Ruben T Reyes, passed away on January 8, 2026, at age 45. Ruben was a longtime resident of the Southeast side of Chicago.  Ruben was a man who truly lived “outside the box.”  He was known for his fierce independence, his creative spirit, and for always being authentically himself. Some of Ruben’s greatest joys were found in the kitchen and in the company of those he loved. He used his talent for cooking to bring people together, sharing good food, and creating lasting memories. He had a generous heart. He was the first to offer a helping hand to anyone in need.  His kind, sweet soul left a mark on everyone who knew him.  He is survived by his beloved children Alexander, Adrian, Antonio, Jacob, and Jade; Mother Linda Rebeles (Santos Morin); Sister Debra (Christopher Dickman) and Brother Thomas (Joanna) Castillo Jr.  He was a proud Uncle to Conrad Dickman, Thomas, Joseph, Joshua, Julian, Gonzalo, Ignacio, Ezequiel, and niece Josephine Castillo. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who knew him affectionately as “Rube,” “Leaky,” “Funcle,” “Blacky,” and “Baby Bratt.”  Ruben was preceded in death by his niece Destinee Marie Castillo.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00pm at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, Indiana.  Rev. Jeannette Alicea will hold services at 5:30 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
