Steve J. Fogarassy

Steve J. Fogarassy, age 77, of Portage, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, May 20,2025 at home with his wife, Freya, and daughters Stephanie Fogarassy and Amy Schlyer by his side. He was born in Hungary April 28, 1948 to Helen and John Fogarassy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Helen and his stepgrandsons Ryan Rivera and Marc Davis. 

He is survived by his wife, Freya of Portage, his daughters Stephanie Fogarassy of Hebron and Amy Schlyer of Arizona, his grandchildren Zachary Schlyer of Valparaiso, Ben Schyler of Indianapolis and Nick Fogarassy of Hebron. stepchildren Dennis (Linda) Davis of Union Mills, Bill (Michelle) Davis of Valparaiso, Bruce Davis of Portage, Cheri (Reni) Rivera of Portage. and Michele (Carl) Harbison of Portage, Stepgrandchilden Chris Davis, Alexandra Davis and Cathryn Davis of Union Mills, Nick and Samantha Davis of Valparaiso, Josh and Brandon Davis of Valparaiso, McCade Davis of Hobart, Frank Rivera of Bradenton, Florida and Cadence Rivera of Portage, and Cosmo Harbison of Portage. One step great grandson Liam Harbison; and uncle, Rev. Alphonse Skerl of Whiting.

In honoring Steve's wishes, there was a private service and burial at St. John Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana.

Steve graduated from Andrean High School and Indiana University, Bloomington, He worked as a millwright at U.S. Steel for over 30 years. After retirement, he worked for a few years at Indiana Botanical Gardens. He enjoyed assembling model cars, reading, spending time with his wife but most of all being with people and using his skills to help others.
