Virgilio A. Colón

Virgilio A. Colón, age 88 of Gary, IN passed away Monday, August 30, 2021 at home.  He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Hipolita Colón who was his rock.  children: late Virgilio (Gladys) Ayala, Carmenlydia (John) Reggans, Victor Colón, Eugenia Colón, Edward Colón, Juanita (Calvin) Daniel, Juan (Veronica) Colón, Gladys Colón and David (Belinda) Colón; many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings: Haydee Torres Colón, Carmen Maria Torres Colón, Virgen Maria Torres Colón, Angel Aurelio Torres Colón, Agustin Ayala and Jovino Ayala.  Preceded in death by mother, Eugenia (Aurelio Torres Resto) Colón Vicente; father, Jose Ayala.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 11:00 am at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN with Rev. Nestor Varon officiating.  Burial to follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN.  Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am Saturday morning.

Virgilio retired from CSX Railroad (Baltimore & Ohio Railroad) after 45 years as a machine operator. He was a nature and animal lover and he was proud of his Puerto Rican Heritage which he instilled in his family.  Virgilio was a hard worker and was an end of an era.  He was a devoted and dedicated husband, father and grandfather.  He will be deeply missed.  In Lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated.  To share an online condolence, logon to www.fifefuneralhome.com
