Carmen (Rodriguez) Rivera

Carmen Rivera (nee Rodriguez), age 89 of Hammond, IN passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at home.  She is survived by children: Miguel (Rosa) Rivera, Rosa Judith (Randy) Red, Raquel (Jerry) Drew, Reynaldo (Martha) Rivera, David (Lori-Lei) Aponte and Ada (Jesus) Guadiana; 23 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; siblings; Miguel (Edith) Cedaño, Gladys Rivera, Antonio (Rose) Cedeño and Cata (late Luis) Gonzalez; nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by her husband, Asproniano Rivera; son, Noel Rivera; brother, Ismael Rodriguez; sister, Lydia Cedeño.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Margaret Mary Church, 1445 Hoffman Street, Hammond, IN with Rev. Eduardo Malagon officiating. Burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond, IN.  Visitation at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 and from 9:30 am until time of Mass at the Church on Thursday morning.

Carmen was born in Orocovis and grew up in nearby Adjuntas, in Puerto Rico. She moved with her family to New Jersey and eventually settled in northwest Indiana. She was a parishioner at Holy Angels Cathedral, then Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Choir (el coro en español). Carmen was a Cursillista, a very good cook and seamstress (member of ILGWU). She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.
