Gilbert Garcia

Gilbert Garcia, age 79 of Hammond, Indiana passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on February 20th.  Gilbert is survived by his children: Nina (Gary) Sena, Gilbert (Donna) Garcia Jr., Yolanda (Romeo) Herrera, Craig (Jeannette) Garcia, and Amber (Gabe) Polo; several grandchildren and extended family and friends. Children with his former companion, Judith Phelps:  Gilberta, April, Christopher and Jennifer, Phelps;  brothers: Herman Garcia, Edward Garcia, Armando Garcia, Richard (Vicky) Garcia, and Rolland (Lisa) Garcia; sisters: Emma Garcia and Beatrice Sharp.  Gilbert is proceeded in death by his ex-wife, Antonia Espinosa; children: Peter Ruiz, Wanda Alvarez and David Garcia; parents, Angelo and Louisa Garcia; sisters: Alice, Blanche, Mary Lou, and Sophie; and brothers: Louis, Henry and Angelo Garcia.

Visitation at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 26, 2020.  Private interment.

Gilbert grew up in East Chicago and severed 6 years in the US Army and retired from J&L Steel.  Gilbert was a “BUSY” man always on the move.  He spent much time under the hood of his cars going to flea markets looking for a bargain and enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends.  To share an online condolence, logon to www.fifefuneralhome.com
