Jose "Chepe" R. Gonzalez

Jose “Chepe” Gonzalez, age 82, of East Chicago, passed away Monday, December 20, 2021 at home.  Jose is survived by his wife of 55 years, Hermila Salcedo Gonzalez; 4 children:  Elizabeth Gonzalez, Cesar (Lupita) Gonzalez, Jose (Blanca) Gonzalez and Alejandro (Erin Snively) Gonzalez; 4 grandchildren:  Cesar Aaron Gonzalez, Sofia Isabel Gonzalez, Luca Esteban Gonzalez and Paz Amalia Gonzalez; sister, Flora Gonzalez; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Funeral Services will begin at 9:15 am at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3510 Deodar St., East Chicago, IN with Rev. Luis Fernando Duque officiating.  Burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN; and on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 8:30 am to 9:15 am at the funeral home. The Rosary will be prayed at the funeral home at 6:00 pm on Tuesday.

Jose retired from Inland Steel Company after 37 years of service; member of United Steelworkers’ Union Local #1010; member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for over 56 years; Jose enjoyed his blue Cadillac Fleetwood and working on cars; always the “handyman” to the neighborhood; he was a wonderful singer and joke-teller; always willing to give someone the shirt off his back; most of all, Jose loved spending time with his grandchildren.
