Maria S. (Cortez) Gonzalez

Maria S. Gonzalez, age 79 of Griffith, IN passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2021.  She is survived by her husband of 51 years Hilario “Lalo” Gonzalez; daughter, Susie (Domingo) Reyes; 3 grandchildren: Julio, Elvira and Maria; siblings: Sabino (Marcelina) Cortez, Rosa Vasquez, Juan (Rosa) Cortez, Josephina (Salome) Castillo and Eladio (Lucina) Cortez; numerous nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by her parents, Julio and Guadalupe Cortez; brother, Valentin Cortez.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3510 Deodar Street, East Chicago, IN with Rev. Carlos Martinez officiating.  Burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond, IN.  Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, July 9, 2021 and from 9:30 am to 10:00 am at the Church on Saturday morning.

Maria retired from Jackson Park Hospital, Chicago, IL after 43 years of service.  She was a very active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, involved with the Legion of Mary, Cursillos, Eucharistic Ministry and many other groups.  To share an online condolence, logon to www.fifefuneralhome.com
