Maria E. Montalvo ( Nee Vergara)

East Chicago - Maria E. Montalvo, Age 80, of East Chicago. born in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico of Tamaulipas. She passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021 peacefully surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra A. Montalvo; son, Jesse Montalvo; 4 granddaughters, Ashley Nicole Montalvo, Lindsey Elizabeth Montalvo, Grace Eden Anderson, Melissa (Danny) Perez;  1 great-granddaughter Mina Perez.  She is also survived by sister, Beatriz (Sergio) Muniz, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by her husband Jesus Montalvo Jr., sister and brother-in-law Griselda (Vincent) Jimenez, Parents Alejandro and Estela Arambula and special friend, Marion Srakovcic.

Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, July 1, 2021.  Pastor Randall Forsythe will hold services at 5:00 pm on Thursday.

Maria lived in Laredo, Texas until the age of 14 when she and her family moved to East Chicago, where she remained all her life. She worked for 27 years as a cook for various schools in City of East Chicago. She was an avid reader, loved puzzle books and loved cooking.  She adored her granddaughters and the occasional trip to the casinos.
