Samuel L. “Sam” Rios, Sr., age 95 passed away Sunday, February 20, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Sam is survived: daughter, Rosemary Juarez; son, Manuel Rios; grandson, Robert Quijano, II; great grandson, Robert Michael Quijano, III; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by wife, Ofelia Rios; son, Samuel Rios, Jr.; parents: Juan and Maria Rios; sister: Amelia Reyna and Josephina Rios; and brothers: Juan Rios and Horacio Rios, Sr.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN. Prayer service with Father Carlos Sosa, A.I.C will be at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Laredo, Texas.
Sam was the Patriarch of the Rios Family; he was born in Laredo, Texas and moved to East Chicago where he was a life-long resident. Sam was a United States Navy Veteran; retired from Inland Steel Company with 40 plus years of service; owner-operator of the El Charro Tavern in East Chicago for over 26 years; worked as a security guard at Atlas Guard Service for over 12 years; and worked for 23 years for Artisian Signs in Riverdale, IL. Member of the Inland Steel 25 Year Club and USWA Local #1010; and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in East Chicago. Sam was Godfather to numerous children; he loved his steak dinners and beer; he enjoyed socializing and being around family and friends. He loved dancing at weddings and quinceañeras. Sam was a very positive person, always in good spirits. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Memorial donations requested to the Family.
