Susana Escobedo Juarez

Susana “Susanita” Escobedo Juarez, age 78, of Porter, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.  Susana is survived by her 6 children: Jose Antonio (Silvia Medina), Rosario Zavala, Rosa Maria Barragan (Javier Barragan), Fernando Zavala (Rosalinda Quillares), Marina Zavala, Maria Isabel Zavala Cintora (Juan Manuel Cintora); 18 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 7 brothers and sisters.  Preceded in death by her husband, Antonio Zavala Zavala; and daughter Isabel Zavala.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 11:30 am at St. Mary Church, Indianapolis Blvd. at 144th Street, East Chicago, Indiana with Rev. Jan Krutewicz officiating.  Burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana.  Visitation will be on Monday, March 18, 2024 from 9:00 to 11:00 am at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, Indiana.

Susanita was a really hard worker all her life, beginning in Mexico as a janitress in the hotel industry and as a babysitter when she moved to the United States.  She loved  fashion, jewelry, cooking, dancing and listening to music; was a very brave and generous person, always putting other people first before her own interests. Susana also loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Susanita was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed.
