Sylvia (nee Alcala) Loredo, age 79, of Hammond, Indiana, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2020. Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Melissa (John) Poe of Hobart, IN; 2 son, Greg Campos of Denver, CO and Eric Loredo of Hammond, IN; 3 grandchildren: Ethan Poe, Alyra Loredo, and Lianna Loredo; brothers: Frank (Sue) Alcala and Vincent (June Ann) Alcala; sisters: Freda (Fred) Reyes, Eleanor Ceja, Irene (Gibo) Vera, Lupe (Billy) Rosas, Yvonne (Jim) Walker, Rosie Alcala, and Patricia (Rick) Regalado; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and Sylvia’s beloved dog, Shadow. Preceded in death by parents: Guadalupe and Freda Alcala; and sisters: Nancy (Richard) Szromba and Peggy (Orlando) Lopez.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, Indiana. Funeral Services will be held at 7:30 pm Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Terry Steffens officiating.
Sylvia was formerly employed at Inland Steel Company; also worked in the Animal Control Department of the City of East Chicago; and was a Certified Nurse Assistant at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point. A former member of Holy Trinity Croatian Church in East Chicago. She devoted her life to her children and grandchildren; loved to play bingo and watch golf on TV. She had the brightest smile and loved her family dearly and the simple things in life.
