Veronica M. Todd (nee Rakoczy), age 79, of East Chicago, Indiana passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022. Veronica is survived by her daughter, Kristin (Thomas) Frank; 2 sons: John Michael Todd and David Todd; grandchildren: Marta Frank and Eli Frank; sisters: Maryann Pierce and Helen (late George) Muskin; brothers: John (Jean) Rakoczy and Jacob Rakoczy; brother-in-law, George Hayes; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, including Rev. Walter “Rocky” Rakoczy. Preceded in death by her husband, John U. Todd; parents: John and Josephine Rakoczy; and sister, Barbara Hayes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Stanislaus Church, Magoun Avenue at 150th Street, East Chicago, Indiana with Msgr. John J. Siekierski and Rev. Walter Rakoczy officiating. Interment to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 5, 2022 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN and on Monday, June 6, 2022 from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass at 10:00 am at Church.
FOR THOSE ATTENDING THE FUNERAL MASS FOR MRS. TODD - PARKING AT ST. STANISLAUS CHURCH WILL BE IN THE LOT ON INDIANAPOLIS BOULEVARD BETWEEN THE SCHOOL AND THE RECTORY, PLEASE ENTER ON INDIANAPOLIS BLVD. CONSTRUCTION IS SCHEDULED TO CLOSE MAGOUN AVENUE IN FRONT OF THE CHURCH ON MONDAY, JUNE 6TH.
Veronica was a 1960 graduate of Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond; worked at Euclid Machine & Tool prior to her marriage. She was a former member and CCD teacher at St. Mary Church, East Chicago and later a member of St. Stanislaus Church. She was a devout catholic who prayed the Rosary every day. She was an active neighborhood mom, participating in several civic and community organizations. Veronica was an avid reader, loved to play bunco, and any trivia and word games. She was devoted to and loved her grandkids and was a huge Chicago White Sox fan. During her husband's basketball coaching career, she was a mentor and friend to his players; developing a strong, loving and lasting relationship with those students. Veronica truly appreciated the neighborhood and her wonderful neighbors; she was a long-time resident of East Chicago’s 1st District.
